Two pages of mine are included in the show but apart from the Anderson stories from which they are taken having been played out in Megacity they have no direct connection to Judge Dredd. I have drawn Judge Dredd but not much and had no applicable art to contribute. Apologies to anyone who gives a jot.
The Judge Dredd drawing is by David Roach and done for the exhibition.
Bartosz thoughtfully sent a press release. Most of it is below.
Judge Dredd is a phenomenon of British popular culture. Arguably the most popular British character of the 20th century he debuted in 1977 in the pages of 2000AD, a weekly-published comic book anthology. It’s almost 40 years on from his first appearance and there have been two full length theatrical movies, numerous games, statues, action figures, clothing, bedding, kitchenware and all that is before you even begin to mention the millions of comics, novels and collected works translated into many languages. Judge Joseph Dredd is still going strong to this day with new episodes published weekly and monthly in 2000AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine.
The exhibition brings together some of the finest artists ever to draw Dredd as well as more recently published and up and coming artists. From private commissions by the character’s co-creator - Spanish artist Carlos Ezquerra, through incredibly inked pages by legends such as Mick McMahon and David Roach, to fully painted covers and digitally painted covers respectively by Glenn Fabry and Ryan Brown the exhibition features the richness of stylistic approaches to the character and the world he inhabits.
The pages on display at ‘Judgement in Cardiff’ have been lent to Caped in Case for the purpose of this exhibition either by the artists themselves or from private collections.
‘Judgement in Cardiff‘ is the first exhibition of this type in the capital of Wales, Cardiff and will be the only time to see these collected works in the same space.
