Outside In is an organisation that "provides a platform for artists who see themselves as facing barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance or isolation. The goal of the project is to create a fairer art world which rejects traditional values and institutional judgements about whose work can and should be displayed." It was founded by Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, in 2006 and is still based at the Gallery. In 2013, it won the Charity Award in the Arts, Culture, and Heritage category. Over the past ten years, the project has supported 2,100 artists who all have a gallery on the Outside In website. The project has also been able to offer an international platform for the artists it supports, having taken part in the 2014 and 2015 Paris Outsider Art Fairs. Outside In’s main vehicle is a triennial open art exhibition, first held in 2007. In September 2017 to mark the tenth anniversary of Outside In there will be an exhibition of work by previous Outside In Award Winners in the Pallant House Gallery. Meanwhile until May 8th William Lia, an Outside In artist and Winner of the 2015 Sussex Artists’ Award now has a solo show - Passion for Painting- William Lai - at the Studio, Pallant House Gallery, an exhibition showing some of the works that he has created over the last 50 years. The first image is his. Other images are a random selection from the Outside in website. http://www.outsidein.org.uk/ That's in part why I like this stuff - because they can be so random. Surprising and un-predictable these artists often do things a college trained artist would never consider.
