News this week of the death of Frank Frazetta. There can be few illustrators or comic-book artists who have not been aware, influenced or envious of his imagination, drawing and technical skill. Starting at age 16 assistant to a comic artist he did funny animal strips before moving to adventure, SF and fantasy strips later developing the form of painted illustration that made him so well-known and admired. He had an amazing ability to create mythic, iconographic images that engage and stimulate the imagination of the viewer. From my point of view he was also a great pen and ink man.
